Do you know where Simplon Pass is?
It is located between the Pennine Alps in the Piemonte region and the Lepontine Alps in Switzerland. The pass itself and the villages around it are in Switzerland.
Simplon Tunnel was built beneath the vicinity of the pass in the early 20th century to carry rail traffic between the two countries that allowed Lake Maggiore to be one of the top destinations for luxury tourism. At that time Orient Express Simplon Line passed along this area. A very Belle Epoque story to tell.
Leandro got in touch with Elena and David with a call and they immediately tuned. They are all very joyful and positive people who love simple and beautiful kind of life.
Elena comes from Ukraine and David is German but they both live in Bern – Switzerland.
As they really love the atmosphere of their Swiss Alps and Lake Orta they decided to mix the two elements to create a perfect day.
A wedding Ceremony at Simplon Pass on The Alps
For their Roman Catholic ceremony, Elena and David chose a very small alpine chapel on Simplon Pass. It was a Friday. We were all breathing the fresh and frizzy mountain air. The day was sunny and bright. The precise spot that Elena and David chose was Alte Kaserne at 1149 mt above the sea level. It is a small village located right after the border between Italy and Switzerland. It is the paradise of trekkers but on that day it was all about Elena and David. The bride arrived accompanied by the sound of the bell of the chapel. It was played by one of the guests’ little son. So cute!
As you can imagine the church was really small and simple but it was filled with emotions. The bride and groom and their guests were very touched by the ceremony itself and the romantic context they chose to tie the knot.
But it was not over they knew that they would have seen soon another great beauty: Lake Orta.
The Alps and Lake Orta: a wonderful wedding in Italy!
A fresh Aperitif by the Alps peaks
Right after the ceremony bride and groom hosted a small and intimate aperitif with some finger food and fresh watermelon. It was a great occasion for guests to mingle a little before reaching Lake Orta. This time gave the bride and groom the occasion to spend some time with Leandro Biasco and take some amazing photos in the meadows by the Alps. Fresh scents of wildflowers, blue sky, and the peaks were the perfect frame for a mountain wedding.
A wedding reception on Lake Orta
Later on, the whole group moved on Lake Orta and we got onboard one of the famous ferry boats of the Lake called Ortensia.
Alps and Lake Orta a wonderful wedding in Italy.
They had a lovely big tour of the Lake seeing all the best spots from a special point of view. The bride and groom and their guests were entertained by some background music and lovely food and drinks buffet.
Elena and David decided to stop at St. Julius Island too. A visit to this special and romantic island cannot massif you plan a wedding on Lake Orta.
Leandro took the chance to take amazing candid shots to Elena and David and their guests admiring the beauty of this special place.
Once ready to start the boat tour again, they all moved to a big hotel where the real reception could begin.
It was a great day among moving speeches, laughs, dances and a very special wedding cake to complete the evening.
Elena and David cut their tiered wedding cake with their initials on just by the shores with the amazing backdrop of Lake Orta.
Blend the Alps and Lake Orta
When you blend the Alps and Lake Orta you cannot miss, you will surely get a wonderful destination wedding.
A big thanks to Leandro Biasco for his inspiring work and for these amazing photos.
