If you are familiar with Italian country you probably know. Roots of this Summer holiday are dated back to Ancient Romans. They used to celebrate Feriae Augusti. This was meant to celebrate the harvest and the end of agricultural labour. Big feast were planned to celebrate.
Modern name of the holiday comes directly from Latin.
Modern celebrations of Ferragosto date back to 1920s where trips to seaside, bbq, fireworks and big lunches outdoor were planned. We still do it, every year on August 15th!
On the same day we also celebrate Catholic feast of Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary.
On Ferragosto week most of Italian people are on vacation by the sea relaxing, also because the weather and temperature is so hot that could reach 40-45 degrees in some areas.
Most of the business are closed and we can explain it as as a sort of Christmas day in Summer.
However every year we have some couples that choose Ferragosto time to get married in Italy and as usual we are happy to help to make their dream come true.
For wedding professionals and venues on Italian wedding destinations it is important providing the best professional service even on a week as Ferragosto one for non-Italian couples who do not celebrate Ferragosto but even for Italian couples who chose August to get married.
